<p>I never start the pasta first. They will overcook by the time the bacon is ready. I start the water first and add the pasta when bacon and mushrooms are ready. I do not add butter, I use the bacon fat. You can dry the bacon on paper towels and remove the fat to add butter or you can live dangerously and use both. I do not add salt, because the bacon and parmesan is salty enough for me. I added chopped scallions and cracked pepper.<br />
